As a response to concerns from Members about the disruption and safety issues regarding fireworks in our community, Nexwsxwníw̓ntm ta Úxwumixw (Council) passed a resolution in August 2022 for the control and eventual ban of fireworks on-reserve as of November 1, 2022. This ban was reaffirmed in August 2023.
Selling, purchasing, possessing, or discharging fireworks on-reserve is not permitted at any time.

On August 18, 2022 Nexwsxwníw̓ntm ta Úxwumixw (Council) passed a resolution for the immediate control of fireworks on Squamish Nation lands. The resolution allowed for limited sales of fireworks until the close of day on October 31 by those with permits and a full ban to come into effect as of November 1.
On August 4, 2023 a new resolution was passed outlining continued support for the full ban on the sale, purchase, and discharge of fireworks.
Nexwsxwníw̓ntm ta Úxwumixw (Council) has heard ongoing concerns from many Members about the disruption and safety issues regarding the use and sale of fireworks in our community.
In an effort to keep all members of our community safe, Nexwsxwníw̓ntm ta Úxwumixw passed this resolution and directed Nation staff to create bylaws regarding the prohibition of fireworks sales and usage with fines for those who do not follow them.
Per the regulations, “Council directed that exceptions to the prohibition on fireworks could be made by resolution by Council” for a Nation organized event, for example.
