What is the off-site experiential learning policy?
The purpose of this policy is to:
- Enable and encourage off-site experiential learning in order to engage students in the learning process and deliver curriculum in a more culturally relevant and complete way.
- Provide guidelines for all activities taking place off school grounds to staff, school administrators, superintendents and directors of education, and School Councils and School Boards who plan and approve off-site experiential learning trips.
- Promote safety and effective risk management as a paramount component of off site experiential learning trip planning and approval.
- Encourage the review and evaluation of off-site experiential learning activities.
What are the activity standards?
Activity standards are appendixes to the off-site experiential learning policy. Follow the associated activity standards while leading your school outing.
These documents outline the minimum standards that staff, contractors and volunteers must follow. Sometimes off-site trips need extra considerations. These trips are assessed on a case-by-case basis.

The activity standards are now available on the open government portal. Open.yukon.ca houses a collection of publications by
Yukon government departments.
