PSAC’s National Executive Vice-President (NEVP), Magali Picard, announced her resignation today. 

“It is with a heavy heart today that I announce my resignation. The past month has been a difficult one, personally and professionally. It is the right time for me to focus on the needs of my family,” said Picard. 

Magali Picard was elected NEVP at PSAC’s National Triennial Convention in May 2018. She previously served as the Regional Executive Vice-President (REVP) for PSAC’s Quebec Region from 2012-2018, and has held many important roles in the over 20 years of activism in her union. 

“On behalf of the entire membership, I would like to express our collective gratitude to Magali for her service to PSAC and the broader labour movement,” said PSAC National President Chris Aylward. “She is a passionate fighter for working people, for women, for Indigenous peoples, and has put the struggle for social justice at the core of all her work. She has made an immeasurable impact on the lives of our members, and we will miss her.” 

During her years as REVP for the Quebec region, Magali also acted as Vice-President of the FTQ and served on the Board of Directors of its Solidarity Fund. Before assuming that position, she was elected Alternate REVP at the 2008 PSAC-Quebec Convention. She also served as Regional Vice-President, Quebec, for the Union of Veterans Affairs Employees (UVAE) from 2005 to 2012. She was also a part of the National Indigenous Peoples’ Circle. 

“Although I am resigning for family reasons, there’s no doubt that it comes at a difficult time for our organization as we grapple with building a more inclusive union, and responding to the impacts of the global pandemic,” added Picard. “In my own life experiences, I have found that difficult moments offer opportunities to become stronger. My hope is that PSAC will move forward in solidarity to meet the challenges ahead and advance our shared goals for our membership with compassion.”
