Pre-Election Information Session

The Flin Flon and District Chamber of Commerce and Community Futures Greenstone The Hub Entrepreneurship Centre are holding a pre-election info session Wednesday night.  Facilitator Dianne Russell says it will give people planning to run for a seat on City Council an idea of what to expect….

“I think what they’re going to find out is what the Chamber and Greenstone want to provide is an opportunity to understand that if you’re running for election and you get elected this is what it means to be on Council or what is the election process like or am I the right person to run for Council.

Roy Osmond with Colleen Arnold, General Meeting May 24, 2022

Regional Coordinator for Metis Employment and Training with the Manitoba Metis Federation The Pas Roy Osmond spoke on services available at their Flin Flon sub office.  He noted they have programs dealing with job opportunities, training, student employment and career counseling emphasizing a job opportunities subsidy and targeted wage subsidy.

“We want to be a partner, we want to help you get them trained so we always say the job opportunities subsidy is to get someone with multiple barriers the skills they need so they can move on after six months and hopefully find a job elsewhere.  The targeted wage subsidy is a little more restricted.  Our contribution would be higher but we would expect the employer to commit to hiring the person at the end of the program.”

Osmond adds he also expects to have about 33 summer students working in this area.

For information on the many jobs related and other support programs available contact the Manitoba Metis Federation sub office on Main Street and they will refer you to the appropriate person.

President Colleen Arnold with David Chartrand, President of Mb. Metis Federation

At the opening of their Flin Flon sub office Saturday President David Chartrand reported the Manitoba Metis Federation is really active in the province. He stated they have invested in a lot of successful projects noting they’re building hotels, building apartment blocks, pharmacies, clinics and like Ronald McDonald House they’re asking if they come to the city it’s so expensive to stay at a hotel so they already bought the land by Notre Dame by the hospital so they’ll be building a 12 or 18 family facility there for when families come in they have a place to stay.  He said they started a fur company so he put a million dollars into a separate account and it’ll be buying fur starting this year and onward noting they believe in the industry of fur and particularly the cultural connection with their history.
