A COMET COMMUNICATION
Calvin Park Public School - September 18, 2022
Week #2
We had another excellent week of teaching and learning at Calvin Park Public School. This past week, students settled into their routines. Some students were introduced to rotary teachers and new subjects, and all students were assigned lockers and worked to master the intricacies of combination locks. We also had multiple soccer practices and our Terry Fox Running Club started up with many students eagerly taking part. In addition, students have taken over our morning announcements! It's great to hear students sharing upcoming events and letting their peers know all about what's happening in our building.
Robotics was postponed due to a staff absence, but it will start up this week with the guidance and expertise of Mr. Wartman. Some students will attend soccer tournaments this week, and volleyball workshops will begin at Calvin Park, as well. ***Important - Just Announced: Due to current field conditions and tomorrow's forecast, the Girls' Soccer Tournament scheduled for Monday, September 19th has been rescheduled to Friday, September 23rd.
Reminder: Picture Day is tomorrow for Calvin Park students. We look forward to seeing all your smiling faces!
School Advisory Council 2022-2023
Our first Calvin Park/LCVI School Advisory Council meeting and elections will be held on Monday, September 19th at 6:30 pm in the Library. School Advisory Council is a great way to connect with other parents/guardians, learn about school news and positively affect school culture. We hope you can join us. All parents/guardians are welcome!
Call for Nominations:
If you would like to nominate yourself or someone else for a position, please click on the following link: Nomination Form for School Advisory Council Positions. Nominations are due by 12 noon on Monday, September 19th.
School Advisory Council Elected Positions:
Co-Chair (Calvin Park Parent/Guardian) & Co-Chair (LCVI Parent/Guardian)
Co-Chairs act as the primary representatives of the School Advisory Council and lead meetings. The Co-Chairs arrange for meetings (along with the school principal), prepare agendas, chair council meetings, ensure that minutes of council meetings are recorded and maintained, encourage consensus among members, facilitate the resolution of conflict, and establish sub-committees.
Secretary
The secretary records and distributes meeting minutes. The secretary will type minutes, make notes of actions promised and planned, distribute minutes to co-chairs and principal, and see that minutes are posted, once approved.
Treasurer
The treasurer keeps accurate records of all monies collected and spent by the school advisory council. The treasurer records all financial transactions and presents quarterly and year-end financial statements to the council.
Indigenous Representative
The Indigenous representative attends meetings, participates in council activities, and is a voting member.
Members at Large
Members at Large attend meetings, participate in council activities, and are voting members.
Community Representative
A community representative contributes to the discussion of the School Advisory Council and is a voting member. A community representative helps to build partnerships and links between the school and the community.
We look forward to meeting parents/guardians on Monday, September 19th at 6:30 pm in the Library. Our goal is to end meetings by 8:00 pm to be respectful of everyone’s time.
