Sydenham News
February 2023
Dear Sydenham Families,
Students are also working hard inside the school, especially as we wrap up the first term of the school year. Educators are collecting summative assignments and other assessment pieces at this time. We would like to remind parents to ensure that students arrive to school on time (plan to arrive before the bell rings at 8:55) as even a few minutes late on regular basis adds up to a significant amount of instructional time lost.
We also respectfully ask that parents adhere to parking regulations at drop off and pick up times. With the snowbanks growing, it makes sightlines more difficult and narrows the roads. Please make sure you do not park on the wrong side of the street, and that you do not stop in the middle of the street to pick up or drop off your child. Doing so for even a quick second contributes to traffic problems and poses a threat to safety. Staff and passersby have witnessed a number of near misses; in one case, a car had to go up onto the sidewalk to avoid being hit by someone who was pulling out of a spot on the wrong side of the street. Thankfully, the sidewalk was clear of any pedestrians, but we must prevent these near misses.
Lastly, I would like to publicly thank Ms. Diamond for all of her leadership, support, mentorship, and championing of our three school communities. A recent memo was sent out to all families informing us that Ms. Diamond will be changing schools as of February 2nd. We will certainly miss her!! Ms. Becky MacDonald will be the incoming principal of Sydenham, Central, and Marysville Schools.
Best Wishes,
Sara Marshall,
Vice-Principal
Good luck at your new school Ms. Diamond! We will miss you!
STUDENT ILLNESS & MASKING
Staff and students should stay home when sick.
In addition, for a total of 10-DAYS AFTER THE START OF ANY ILLNESS SYMPTOM or positive Rapid Antigen Test, STUDENTS AND STAFF ARE EXPECTED TO WEAR a well-fitted MASK in all public settings (including schools and childcare, unless under two years old) and avoid non-essential activities where mask removal is necessary.
KFL&A Public Health continues to encourage people to mask in indoor, congregate settings like schools. We continue to work very closely with KFL&A Public Health as it relates to health and safety, and absences due to illness. KFL&A Public Health has created a helpful resource for school and childcare screening for families to use. If COVID-19 protocols change, they will be communicated directly with families and updated on Limestone’s COVID-19 Protocol Update webpage.
