A Comet Communication
Calvin Park PS - October 2nd, 2022
Thank You!
Thank you to all of our students and families who attended our Newcomer event and Open House/BBQ this past week! It was wonderful to see students proudly touring their guardians around our facilities while showcasing their classrooms, lockers, etc. If you were unable to make it, not to worry - we will have many more opportunities to welcome you to the school this year.
Thank you for your ongoing support of our Calvin Park Comets!

Queen's University STEPS Program
What is the STEPS Program?
The STEPS program is a two-year program for students in Grades 7 and 8 with learning challenges at school related to learning disabilities, ADHD, or autism spectrum disorder.
To be eligible for this program, students must:
- Apply for the program during the fall/winter of their Grade 7 year
- Have impairments in academic achievement
- Be previously diagnosed with a relevant disability (e.g., a learning disability, ADHD, autism spectrum disorder), or have a history that strongly suggests a relevant disability
- Have average intellectual functioning, based on previous assessment findings
Students without a recent psychoeducational assessment will receive one through our office at the cost of $2000 (with option to pay in instalments over 2 years). The STEPS program itself is free for families. Priority is given to fall applications; however, we can still accept applications up until March 1, 2023.
The registration forms and flyer can be found on the STEPS website.
https://www.queensu.ca/rarc/transitions/steps
Application packages can be accepted by email (sent through the Secure Docs website), fax, or in person. If you would like to deliver in person, please be sure to come during operating hours (Monday – Friday from 8:30 am- 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm) and hand to a RARC staff member.
Important Reminders
Please help us keep track of our 400+ students and ensure their safety by:
- Refraining from texting your student during class time; feel free to call and leave a message with the office administrator, and we will make sure your student receives it
- Redirecting your student to call from the office if they aren't feeling well, need to be picked up, etc.
- Sending a note or notifying the office administrator if your student needs to be picked up at an earlier time
- Reminding your student to sign out at the office, even if you have already called and informed us that they would be leaving. The sign-out binder becomes critical during a fire drill or other similar procedures in confirming that all students are accounted for
Please note that students can make calls from the office if needed. Thank your for your help in making sure our students are in-class and safe.
Thank You, Caretakers!
