A Comet Communication
Calvin Park Public School - Sept. 25th, 2022
Another Wonderful Week!
This week, we only have four days of classes due to the PA Day on Monday, September 26th. We look forward to welcoming students back to class on Tuesday. We also look forward to welcoming our students' guardians and family members to our Open House and BBQ this Thursday! More details are below.
Thanks for your ongoing support of the Calvin Park Comets!
**This Week** - Open House and BBQ
It promises to be a busy night at Calvin Park PS and LCVI. Please see the schedule below, especially if you have students who attend both schools:
- 5:00 – 6:00 pm Calvin Park Open House
- 5:45 – 6:30 pm BBQ (for grade 7-8 families AND grade 9 families)
- 6:30 – 8:00 pm LCVI Grade 9 Parent/Guardian Night
**This Week** - Orange Shirt Day in Honour of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
On September 30th of each year, we recognize both Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. On this day, we commemorate the residential school experience and honour the healing journey of the survivors and their families. We encourage everyone to learn about the history of residential schools and to engage in meaningful discussions about the effects of residential schools and the legacy they have left behind.
Friday, September 30th, please join in our collective support by wearing an orange shirt. While we will wear this symbolic colour on Friday, we will also integrate lessons about Indigenous stories, artwork, and experiences into daily conversations this week and beyond.
**Tomorrow** - Newcomer Potluck - Sept. 26th, 2022 from 4pm to 6pm
**Save the Date** Clothing Sales
Texting and Picking Up Students
Last week, we encountered many situations where students were picked up by parents without notifying the office. In turn, the students were marked absent from their next class, and staff searched for them and called home to ensure their safety and wherabouts.
Please help us keep track of our 400+ students and ensure their safety by:
- Refraining from texting your student during class time; feel free to call and leave a message with the office administrator, and we will make sure your student receives it
- Redirecting your student to call from the office if they aren't feeling well, need to be picked up, etc.
- Calling the office and notifying the office administrator that your student will be picked up at a certain time if it is before dismissal
- Reminding your student to sign out at the office, even if you have already called and informed us that they would be leaving. The sign-out binder becomes critical during a fire drill or other similar procedures in confirming that all students are accounted for
Please note that students can make calls from the office if needed. Thank your for your help in making sure our students are in-class and safe.
