A Comet Communication
Calvin Park Public School - October 23rd, 2022
Dear Comet Families,
Our first two off-property lunch days went well, and we will continue to offer these opportunities this week: Grade 7 students can go off-property for lunch on Wednesday and Grade 8 students can go on Thursday.
Reminder: There is a PA Day tomorrow, Monday, October 24. There is no school for students. We look forward to seeing students back on Tuesday.
Happy Diwali!
What Does The Maltby Centre Offer?
If your student would benefit from mental health support, such as assistance dealing with anxiety or having access to counsellors, or Autism support, please reach out to The Maltby Centre for more information, or check out their website to see the many services the offer.
They also offer workshops for parents and caregivers, and they are looking for people to join their Board of Directors.
Dress Purple Day - Thursday, October 27th
"Every October, Children’s Aid Societies across Ontario raise awareness about the important role that individuals and communities play in supporting vulnerable children, youth, and families through the provincial Dress Purple Day campaign. The campaign is more important than ever, since the COVID-19 pandemic has created additional stressors for families, and in some cases has increased risk for the well-being and safety of children and youth.
This year, Dress Purple Day will take place on Thursday, October 27, 2022.
We are calling on all Ontarians to wear something purple to show children, youth, and families that they are here to help!"

Tutoring will be available through MS Teams from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from October 11 until December 15, 2022. Tutoring will not be available on PA days or holidays. There are three grade groupings for students: Grade 1 to 3, Grade 4 to 6, and Grade 7 to 10. Tutors will provide Homework Help for students in the Grade 7 to 10 group. LDSB Tutoring Resources
Guidelines for Virtual Tutoring for Limestone Students
- The student must be logged in to MS Teams using their Limestone account. The student’s camera and microphone should be on so that the student and tutor can communicate more effectively.
- The student should have the materials that they need with them. The student should try to set up in an area in the home with minimal distractions for the tutoring session.
- There are four tutors available for each grade group each night and students can join a tutoring session by clicking on any of the four links for their grade. Students must only use the links for their grade level.
- If a tutor is already working with a student, subsequent students will be placed in the lobby of the meeting and then be admitted on a first-come, first-served basis once the tutoring session for the previous student is completed. Tutoring sessions will be 15 minutes long and may be extended if no other students are waiting.
