Turning everyday tasks into learning tasks

Welcome to Learning4Success!

Learning4Success is a digital initiative of HWDSB Specialized Services that was created in response to the COVID-19 school closure. Here, you will find meaningful learning tasks for families to use with their child at home and to support their child’s transition back to school.

These learning tasks are designed for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder or a Developmental Disability who are on a modified or alternative program at school. All tasks use items commonly found at home.

The site is organized into four sections.  A new section – Transition Back – has been added to provide support for families and students learning enhanced safety measures and new routines in preparation to return to school.

We consider this a starting point – we know that families will use these tasks as a springboard for creativity to adapt and personalize for each child’s age and interests.

The learning tasks are also progressive: when a child learns the task with one set of materials and verbal prompts, for example, the task should be repeated in different forms until it can be done without prompting. Learning4Success also provides additional resources for families such as the Social Story™, Why Am I at Home? All of these resources are intended to supplement resources provided by your child’s classroom teacher.

We continue to enhance and develop Learning4Success to meet the needs of students and families. You will see additional videos and resources posted frequently, so please visit the site often.
