The Health Human Resource (HHR) shortage has been growing for decades but COVID has turned it into a crisis. Mass burn-out and resignations are resulting in high cost of replacement and more stress on those left behind. Many organizations are increasing efforts around recruitment, but very few are talking about retention, nor are they calculating the cost of high turn-over. Billions of dollars are leaking from our health care system, mostly going unnoticed.

When we retain valuable employees, we stop the leak; we have more money for higher remuneration and benefits, we can attract more talent, grow our organizations, and deliver more patient care. This approach offers a competitive advantage and is the key to survival during this challenging time.

This workship will present a ‘burning platform’ for why we must stop the leak. A case study will demonstrate the high cost of turn-over and staff replacement (churn) with a relevant example from the health care sector. This “aha moment” will empower you to calculate the cost of churn in your organization and to realize the potential savings that could be reinvested in other priorities.

To retain staff, we need to invest in ‘people strategies’ that improve the employee experience, enhance culture, and create healthy environments for healthcare workers to work and build careers. But how?

This course will present three practical solutions to retain and engage staff that can be employed immediately. The ROI Institute 12-Step Methodology* will be demonstrated, showing how to identify both tangible and intangible measures, and calculate the Return on Investment (ROI), to ensure maximum impact and value to the organization.

Expected Outcomes:
  • Be aware of the high cost of turn-over and replacement (churn) and the need to prioritize retention strategies
  • Know how to prototype a solution that can have an immediate impact on your team and/or organization
  • Be introduced to the ROI Institute’s Methodology to evaluate, calculate and communicate the ROI of potential solutions
