Break the Bias

Instructor:
Naomi Uy BSc., LSSGB, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Specialist

Evolve your knowledge and understanding of bias as it relates to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in the workplace, in your personal daily interactions, and in the decisions you make.

On March 8, 2022, the campaign for International Women’s Day is #BreakTheBias. Join Naomi Uy, Business Consultant and DEI Specialist, as she shares her own personal career journey as an Asian-Canadian female navigating the business world and the systemic biases often faced by women striving for leadership roles both in the public and private sector. This webinar will also teach you about fundamental DEI concepts and principles that are critical building blocks for creating a more inclusive workplace and team. Although the session will focus on issues faced by women and gender inequities in the workplace, it will also provide valuable and practical strategies on how to become a better ally and on challenging our own unconscious biases, regardless of gender.

Learning Outcomes:
  1. Gain a better understanding of the following key DEI concepts and terminology:
    • diversity vs inclusion
    • equity vs equality
    • unconscious bias
    • allyship vs sponsorship
  2. Learn how to become aware of your own biases
  3. Learn about the power of ‘micro-affirmations’ as an ally challenging observed biases in the workplace
  4. Feel empowered and have an action plan with practical tools that proactively challenge personal biases
Intended Audience
  • Business professionals looking to improve their awareness of bias to ensure a more inclusive work/team culture
  • All levels of staff who are striving to challenge their own decision-making framework and reduce the influence of bias on outcomes

"Be Part of a Movement.

Individually, we're all responsible for our own thoughts and actions - all day, every day.
We can break the bias in our communities.
We can break the bias in our workplaces.
We can break the bias in our schools, colleges and universities.
Together, we can all break the bias - on International Women's Day (IWD) and beyond.”
