October is Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Month and we’re encouraging everyone to locate and register AEDs. By doing so you’re helping to build a network of life-saving devices that could mean the difference between life and death for someone suffering a cardiac arrest.

By locating and registering AEDs this October not only could you help save a life, but you will be registered to win $500! You can also help by spreading the word about the AED contest—and we’ve created a bunch of pics, posts and other resources to make that easy!

HELP BUILD YOUR COMMUNITY REGISTRY

Help us locate and register AEDs so their location is known by citizen responders and 9-1-1 telecommunicators in the event of a cardiac arrest.

By registering AEDs with the free PulsePoint AED app, or online through AED.new, during Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Month (October) this year, you’ll be registered to win one of ten $500 Amazon gift cards. The more AEDs you register, the more chances you'll have to win. Collectively, the community that registers the most AEDs will be granted $5000 towards the purchase of new AEDs.

  • AEDs must be registered between October 1, 2023 and October 31, 2023 to qualify (contest period).
  • AEDs must be registered using the free PulsePoint AED app available on the App Store and Google Play, or online at AED.new.
  • Individual winners will be notified via the email address associated with their PulsePoint AED account no later than November 17, 2023. Winners will be asked to provide a mailing address to receive their gift card.
  • The community that collectively registers the most AEDs (there will be a small community weighted scale) will receive a $5000 grant for the purchase of AEDs. Additionally, PulsePoint will assist with marketing efforts around the placement and registration of those AEDs.

Increase Survival

WHY CATALOGING AED LOCATIONS IS CRUCIAL

More than 350,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests (OHCA) occur annually in the U.S. making it a leading cause of death. Survival rates nationally for sudden cardiac arrest are less than 10 percent.

However, cardiac arrest victims who receive a shock from a publicly-available AED (automated external defibrillator) administered by a bystander prior to EMS arrival have 2-3 times better odds of survival to hospital discharge and more favorable outcomes. Without bystander AED use, 70 percent of cardiac arrest patients either die or survive with impaired brain function.

Despite the life-saving potential of AEDs, they are of no value if they cannot be located and placed into service during a cardiac emergency.
