June 1st, 2021
Dear Parents and Guardians of Nackawic Senior
High School,
We have been informed of a positive Covid-19
case at Nackawic Senior High School. We are working with Public Health
officials to identify any students and school personnel who may have been in
contact with the case.
Public Health Officials
or your school will contact you if your child has been:
- Identified as a
close contact with the confirmed case.
In this instance, your child and all household members will be asked to
self-isolate for 14 days, or;
- Potentially exposed to the case due to a common
environment exposure. An example of this would be using the same classroom. In this instance, your child will be asked to self-isolate until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, June 6th,
and self-monitor for 14 days through to June 14th. All household members will be required to do a modified self-isolation as well. More information on modified self-isolation will come in a
communication from Public Health. You will receive information on next steps before the end of the day on Sunday, June 6th.
If
you are not contacted by Public Health (through a call or a message from your
school), your child does not need to self-isolate and may continue with regular
activities.
The Learning Plan for This Week:
Tomorrow, Wednesday, June 2nd,
will be an operational day to allow for continued contact tracing and cleaning
the school. This means there will be no instruction tomorrow. If
students require specific materials to learn from home and are not
self-isolating, they will be permitted to visit the school tomorrow between
3:30 and 5:00 p.m. to retrieve their items. Students should only report to the
school to gather belongings if required.
On Thursday, June 3rd, and
Friday, June 4th, all students, including those who are
self-isolating, will transition to online learning. Students are to log on to
their classes on both days as they would during their distance learning days.
We will reassess the situation over the weekend
and provide you with an update on continued learning at that time.
It is natural to want to know if your child may
have been exposed to the virus but to protect the privacy of students and
school personnel, other details, including names, will not be released.
Children and young people look to the adults in
their lives to guide them on how to react to worrying and stressful events.
Parents are encouraged to talk to their children about any anxieties and remind
them to treat one another with kindness and respect, in person and on social
media.
If your child is showing any symptoms of
Covid-19, you should:
- Register
them online for a test by clicking “Get tested” on the GNB coronavirus
website (www.gnb.ca/coronavirus). OR
- Contact
Tele-Care 811.
The 811 operators will evaluate your child
before sending them for testing. If you have questions that are health-related,
please write to COVID-19NB@gnb.ca
Thank you for your continued support as we
respond to the pandemic.
Sincerely,
David McTimoney, Superintendent
