Early Career Investigator Award - OPEN until April 30, 2024

The objective of the Early Career Investigator Award is to recognize the research achievements of a Canadian microscopist within the early stages of his/her career as a Principal Investigator.

Nominations are now open until April 30, 2024

Eligibility: PI within 10 years of starting first academic appointment as a full-time faculty member, with a record of participation in the MSC/SMC

 

Evaluation Criteria: Evidence of outstanding research achievements and impact in the Canadian microscopy research community including, but not limited to, publications, citations, awards, potential for international impact, invited research talks, IP & technology development, based on the candidate’s curriculum vitae, candidate statement, 2-3 letters of support from arms-length referees and nominator statement.

 

Frequency: Every 2 years, awarded in alternate years from the Technologist Award

 

Recipient will receive: $2500 from the MSC/SMC + certificate + travel expenses for annual meeting to receive award

 

Nomination Process:

  1. Nominations will be solicited by email sent to all current MSC/SMC members. The nominators will be asked to submit a short supporting statement (~250 words) explaining why they feel the candidate should receive the award. Nominations will be submitted through the MSC/SMC website. The nominations process will be open for 4 weeks.
     
  2. Nominated candidates will be reviewed to confirm they meet the eligibility criteria, and contacted to determine if they accept the nomination. The nominator or the nominee will provide through the MSC/SMC website:
    • A nomination letter introducing the candidate and explaining the nominee's achievements to make them deserve this award (2 pages maximum).
    • A copy of the nominee's curriculum vitae.
    • 2-3 letters of support from established experts in their field at arms-length.
