Ottawa Campus electrical shutdown: impact on services

Dear Colleagues and Learners,

Further to the June 5 electrical shutdown memo, the following in-person services will be affected by the Ottawa Campus electrical shutdown from June 23-28, 2023. Please note campus buildings will not be accessible during the lockdown period.

Advancement and Strategy

All services in the Advancement and Strategy Division will be remote during the Ottawa Campus electrical shutdown, including alumni enquires and donations.

Algonquin Students’ Association

The Jack Doyle Athletics and Recreation Centre (ARC) will be closed from June 24 to June 27, including the Wolves Den (X130). The Sports Field (Z Building) will remain open for the duration of the electrical shutdown.

The SA Food Cupboard (B102) will be closed from June 24 to June 27.

The Student Commons (E Building) will remain open, including the Algonquin Students' Association main office (E114) and the Algonquin Commons Theatre. Starbucks will be closed as part of scheduled renovation and expansion plans.

Applied Research Office

The Applied Research Office in F Building will work remotely on June 26 and June 27.

Campus Services

Information on how the Campus Services area will be affected, including what will be open, closed and modified, can be found on the Campus Services website.

Campus Tours

Ottawa Campus tours will be paused during the electrical shutdown.

Experiential Learning & Entrepreneurship

Co-op and Career Services will be operating remotely on June 26 and June 27.

Entrepreneurship will be operating remotely on June 26 and June 27.

Finance

All of Finance will be working remote. Shipping & Receiving will be open to accept shipments and mail. There will be no internal deliveries.

Human Resources

All of Human Resources will be providing service remotely.

Information Technology Services

ITS will be available to serve students remotely on June 26 and June 27. All in-person services will be closed. Employees who are experiencing technical issues should contact the Service Desk at extension 5555 or email 5555@algonquincollege.com. If the Service Desk is unable to resolve the issue, they will assign the issue to the appropriate IT area for resolution. All in-person activities will resume on June 28.
 
Workday issues can continue to be submitted to workdaysupport@algonquincollege.com.

International Education Centre

The International Education Centre will be available to serve students remotely on June 26 and June 27. All in-person services, including the front reception, will be closed. The IEC can be reached by phone at 613-727-4723 ext. 7031 or 7038. Current students can email the IEC at iecsupport@algoquincollege.com; prospective students and applicants at international@algonquincollege.com. In-person services will resume on June 28. Additional supports and appointment bookings can be found on the IEC website.

Learning & Teaching Services

All services delivered by Learning & Teaching Services will move to remote delivery during the shutdown period. This includes Course Development Support, Educational Technology Support, PLAR & Pathways inquiries, and Professional Development activities for faculty. DLE (Brightspace) support is already delivered remotely.

Registrar's Office & Financial Aid

All in-person services will be closed on June 26 and June 27. The call centre will remain open. Please visit the Registrar’s Office website for more information.

School of Advanced Technology

All personnel will be working remote during the shutdown. They can be reached via email.

School of Wellness, Public Safety and Community Studies

All personnel will be working remotely on June 26 and 27 during the electrical shutdown. During this time the following activities will be cancelled or revised:
  • Western Ottawa Community Resource Centre Adult Day program will not run on Saturday, June 24. 
  • ECE non-semester diploma program has moved their classes to remote delivery for June 26 and June 27.
Please note the electrical shutdown will not impact the Early Learning Centre which will continue to provide care.

Security Services

Please be advised that emergency phones and internal phones on campus may not be operational. If you require Security Services during the shutdown period please call Security via your mobile phone using 613-727-4723 extension or 5010 or 613-727-4723 extension 5000. When calling, please state your name and location.

Student Support Services


The Test Centre office will be closed and will operate remotely for June 26 and June 27. Test Centre staff will be available at 613-727-4723 ext. 7079 or testcentre@algonquincollege.com. Students and employees are encouraged to check the Test Centre website for updated information.
 
Health Services will be closed and unable to provide services for June 26 and June 27. Information about alternate health service providers in your community can be found on the Services page of the Health Services website. Students and employees are encouraged to check the Health Services website for updated information.  
 
Library Services in C Building, including DARE Level 3 will not be accessible for in-person services on June 26 and June 27. Library and Student Learning employees will be working remotely. Students and employees are encouraged to check the Library website for updated information.  
 
Student Learning Centre - Peer Tutoring and Coaching in C Building, including DARE Level 2 will not be accessible for in-person services on June 26 and June 27. Student Learning Centre employees will be working remotely. Students and employees are encouraged to check the Student Learning Centre website for updated information.
