Health & Accessibility

Arts Commons is an inspirational gathering place for all Calgarians and visitors alike to experience the transformative power of the arts.

ACCESSIBLE PARKING

The Arts Commons parkade has designated accessibility parking spaces available, but the parkade fills up quickly, so we recommend coming early. The City Hall parkade has a much larger capacity of accessible parking stalls per level, should a stall not be available. Drop-offs can be made on 8th Avenue in front of the Jack Singer Concert Hall with ramp access into the interior of the building. In the instance that 8th Avenue is closed, drop-offs can be made in the pull-out outside of the Max Bell Theatre which is accessed from 9th Avenue.

For more details of parking in the area, call 403-537-7000 or go to Calgary Parking.

ACCESSIBLE SEATING

Accessible seating is available in all of Arts Commons venues. To receive best available seating and to obtain more information for wheelchair, physically impaired, or visually impaired patrons, please contact the Arts Commons Box Office at 403-294-9494 directly.

AIR FILTRATION

Arts Commons has implemented an Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation (UVGI) solution in the building, and our MERV-15A air filters make sure air leaves our building cleaner than it came in!

WASHROOMS

Accessible washrooms are available throughout the building; Arts Commons staff will be happy to direct you to the closest location.

Gender-neutral washrooms are available in the lobbies of the Jack Singer Concert Hall and Engineered Air Theatre in Arts Commons. If you are attending an event in the Martha Cohen, Max Bell, Motel, or Big Secret Theatres, please speak to a Front of House staff member to be directed to the nearest gender-neutral washroom.

ASL INTERPRETATION

Arts Commons Presents is proud to offer ASL interpretation for all National Geographic Live public presentations at the Jack Singer Concert Hall. ASL interpretation is also offered by many of the Arts Commons Resident Companies: Alberta Theatre Projects, Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, Downstage, Theatre Calgary, and One Yellow Rabbit. If you are attending a rental event, please contact our box office or inquire with the producing company about the availability of ASL interpretation.

ASSISTIVE LISTENING

Arts Commons is proud to provide assistive listening device (ALD) systems in the Big Secret Theatre, Engineered Air Theatre, Martha Cohen Theatre, Max Bell Theatre, and Jack Singer Concert Hall. Please note, it is necessary that you be seated in the orchestra section of the Jack Singer Concert Hall to utilize our assistive listening device system.

Arts Commons uses two types of assistive listening device (ALD) systems:

  • Stethoset - works independently from hearing aids
  • Personal Induction Loop - connects wirelessly with your personal hearing aid

If you're interested in using our hearing assistance technology, please contact our box office for further assistance prior to purchasing your ticket. Once you arrive at Arts Commons, visit the coat check where one of our staff will set you up with a listening device.

REACH OUT TO US

If you have any special needs, please reach out to our box office when you purchase your tickets so that we can best accommodate you. Once you arrive at your venue, proceed to coat check to speak with a member of our Front of House staff. They will be more than happy to assist you in any way that they can.
