MEDIA ACCREDITATION

All media representatives, local and international, wishing to attend the event can apply through the FIBA Media Portal. No other form of application will be accepted.

The deadline for submitting applications is Friday June 4.


COVID-19 MEASURES

Please, note that all accredited media are expected to fully respect and comply with COVID-19 related guidelines which, among others, may restrict access to certain areas inside the venue. In some cases, if required by local authorities, the number of media accredited may have to be reduced even after approval, at the discretion of the host.

More detailed guidelines will be forwarded to accredited media following their accreditation approval.

GENERAL CONDITIONS

  • Successful applicants will be notified by FIBA; completing the application form does not automatically guarantee accreditation.
  • A proper and valid, electronic version of a portrait photo (headshot) of the applicant must be uploaded during the procedure. Applications that do not include a proper and valid photo may not be considered.
  • In order to be considered for media credentials, an applicant must represent a bona fide media organization that produces and publishes original content.
  • Applications for media credentials by club representatives, agents, educational booklet authors, fan bloggers, or media that do not produce original content based on generally accepted news gathering criteria will not be considered.
  • Freelancers (writers, photographers and videographers) may be asked to prove that they are on assignment with a media outlet in order to be considered for credentials.
  • Credentials will be awarded on the basis of the professional history of the applying media, relevance to the event and basketball in general, as well as space availability in the different venues.

HOW TO APPLY FOR ACCREDITATION

  1. Log-in to the FIBA Media Portal or, if you are a new user, create a new profile;
  2. Select the Qualifying Tournament you wish to attend under the "My Events" section (to be found at the top of profile page);
  3. Complete all registration fields as necessary;
  4. IMPORTANT : you will be able to request a “remote coverage accreditation”. This accreditation type will allow you to follow the event remotely and have the opportunity to ask questions to players and coaches virtually during media availability (after the game and during post-game press conferences on Zoom). You will also receive additional content to support your coverage of the event from afar.
  5. Make sure that all tabs are filled out correctly and the information is saved. Following registration, you should receive an accreditation submission confirmation email

IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER

FIBA and the Local Organizing Committee will make every effort to welcome all successfully accredited media at the event and do their best to guarantee them a good level of access and coverage.

However, as the COVID-19 pandemic is still affecting the situation worldwide, limiting activities in indoor venues, FIBA reserves the right to recall accreditation approvals at any time and/or limit the number of media that will be allowed to attend the event, if such advice is given by its Medical Commission and based on the epidemiological situation in the host countries.

MEDIA HOTELS

During the accreditation application media representatives will be able to view the recommended media hotels for the event and get information on the booking procedure. These hotels have been secured by the Local Organizing Committees and offer preferential rates.

TRAVELING RESTRICTIONS
  • To protect Canadians from the outbreak of COVID-19, the Prime Minister announced travel restrictions that limit travel to Canada. Until further notice, most foreign nationals cannot travel to Canada, even if they have a valid visitor visa or electronic travel authorization (eTA).

    Federal quarantine applies for travelers entering Canada. If you can enter Canada and you have no symptoms, you must quarantine for a minimum of 14 days.

    Flying into Canada – your quarantine period includes a mandatory 3-night pre-paid booking at a government-authorized hotel at your own cost.

    As a traveler, you must demonstrate that you have a suitable plan for quarantine.

    • You’re expected to make these plans, within your own means, before travelling to Canada.
    • Foreign nationals who do not have a suitable plan may be denied entry into Canada.
    • Those who arrive in Canada without a suitable place to quarantine will be directed to a federal designated quarantine facility for the full 14-day quarantine period.

    You'll need to confirm you have a suitable place to quarantine where you:

    • stay for 14 days or possibly longer
    • have access to the necessities of life, including water, food, medication and heat without leaving quarantine
    • can avoid contact with others who did not travel with you
    • have no visits from family or guests

  • The citizens of the following participating countries will require a VISA to enter Canada (cost is $200.00 CDN including taxes) to participate in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Victoria, Canada.

    • China
    • Turkey
    • Uruguay

    This is in compliance with the official list from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. 

    If you require a VISA to enter Canada, you will require a Letter of Invitation from the LOC to provide to the diplomatic mission in your country of origin (or in the mission closet to you).  The following Letters of Invitation will be provided to the participating Teams and their delegation without a request.  All other persons requiring a letter, for VISA purposes, is asked to submit a request to Teams@basketballfestival.ca providing the following information:

    1. Surname (as it appears on your passport)
    2. Given name (as it appears on your passport)
    3. Full Address
    4. Email Address
    5. Country where Passport was issued
    6. Why you are requesting the Letter of Invitation

    Once received and verified, a Letter of Invitation will be emailed to you.

    To allow adequate time for processing, applications must be submitted to the appropriate visa office abroad at minimum 12 weeks in advance of the intended visit.  Please check with your local office for processing times as they will vary among countries.

    All federations whose delegation members require VISAs to enter Canada are responsible for applying to their respective diplomatic mission.

    If you do not require a VISA to enter Canada you may require an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) (Cost $7.00 CDN including taxes)
