Overview
Bella Bella (also known as Wágḷísḷa) is a small but lively coastal town on Campbell Island, around 200km north of Vancouver Island. Bella Bella is home of the Haíɫzaqv (Heiltsuk) Nation, with most residents being of Heiltsuk descent.
Given its location on the coast, Bella Bella offers breathtaking views of the Coastal Mountains which can be seen from just about anywhere in town, including our hospital windows and housing units! Passing vessels and whales are also frequently seen in nearby waters.
Between Bella Bella and Denny Island, you will find most of the everyday necessities and services you need to live comfortably including grocery, ATM, pharmacy, gifts and jewelry, arts and crafts, hardware, coffee shops and a restaurant. There is a K-12 school and daycare services.
Accommodation
Fully furnished, up-to-date housing is available to physicians and health care staff. The physician housing units feature a bed, bath, and kitchen along with quality linens, cable, wifi, and all necessities required for comfortable living. Housing is free for locums and regular physicians are charged a reasonable rate for the days you are on-site. Basic food supplies are generally stocked in the physician housing including coffee, tea, sugar and some condiments. Fresh freight usually arrives every Sunday at the Waglisla Band Store (grocery store) in Bella Bella.

Getting here
There are two different ways to get to Bella Bella, although most people choose to fly. Locum physicians arrange their own travel however physicians hired through the Rural GP Locum Program can request assistance from Locums for Rural BC. Nurses and allied health care providers can get assistance through the Bella Bella hospital.
Schedules vary throughout the year. Based on your departing location, travel is available from Bella Coola, Port Hardy (on Vancouver Island) and Prince Rupert to Bella Bella, BC (McLoughlin Bay)
