FIFA Women’s World Cup USA 1999

Canada participated in the third edition of the FIFA Women&’s World Cup in USA in June 1999, posting one draw and two losses in group play. After a 1:1 draw with Japan, Canada lost 1:7 to 1995 champion Norway (who would finish fourth in 1999) and 1:4 to Russia. Canada’s final rank was 12th place out of 16 teams (Canada finished third in Group C). Canada’s three goals were scored by Silvana Burtini and Charmaine Hooper (two). This marked Canada’s second participation in the FIFA Women’s World Cup, having qualified as Concacaf champions in FIFA World Cup Qualifiers in Toronto in September 1998. Canada previously participated at the FIFA Women’s World Cup at Sweden 1995.
