Canada finished in fourth place at the FIFA Women’s World Cup USA 2003, coming within 15 minutes of a place in the final before a 1:2 loss to Sweden in the semi-final stage. In the knock-out phase, Canada beat 1999 silver-medalist China PR in the quarter-final match (a 1:0 win in Portland), but then lost to eventual 2003 silver-medalist Sweden in the semi-final match. In the match for third place, Canada lost 1:3 to host USA.
