Is your church flourishing?

(Perhaps that’s the wrong question.)

Is your church contributing to the flourishing of your community?

All around the world – from universities to the United Nations, from corporations to community organizations – people are talking about flourishing. Rooted in belonging, flourishing means living with purpose and joy, and bringing bold collaborative solutions to our world’s challenges.

The Moderator, the Rev. Dr. Carmen Lansdowne, wants to bring that conversation to The United Church of Canada. She invites us to connect to one another in hope, convicted by a belief that, despite all the challenges of church life in this day and age, we can move from despair to transformation – from languishing to flourishing.

How might we truly be a flourishing church in the world? How might we live in deep spirituality, bold discipleship and daring justice, linked from coast to coast to coast in ministry that transforms us and the world around us?

The invitation

Spend a day with the Moderator, engaging in reflection and energizing activities towards dream-oriented actions for our churches and communities. It’s about:

• Tapping into our new Call. 
• Connecting to the latest in design and future thinking. Opening ourselves in the apocalyptic imagination that is at the heart of our faith.
• Interactive exercises that stretch our bodies, brains, and souls.
• Forming an action plan for your church in your neighbourhood and in this aching, beloved world God has made.

Who should attend?

The leadership of our communities of faith — however you define that. We invite you to come as a team of at least two, so you might be able to work together towards some clear action plans.

Perhaps it’s a few folks from the board or council. Or maybe a team made up of ministry personnel and lay folks. Maybe it’s your music minister and your minister of word, sacrament and pastoral care.
Consider what team of leaders you need to help make strong plans that can help your common future.

We hope so. Come meet the Moderator, engage with each other, explore bold ideas and forge daring connections. Come to be together as disciples and make plans to further your expression of the Jesus movement in your church and community.

The Moderator’s Flourishing project gathers people in church
and community to share bold ideas and make daring connections toward purposeful
transformation in our lives, our relationships, our communities, and our world.
Other parts include a keynote address with innovative changemakers, public
workshops, theological reflection, and a leadership school.
