This project was implemented by CIKS with the objective to provide support to farmers who were affected by cyclones Nivar and Burevi as well as heavy rainfall that caused severe damage to the agricultural fields during the period November 2020 – January 2021. This was supported through donations given by a large number of individuals and it was completed in December 2021. As a part of this project, CIKS carried out a whole range of efforts and activities and the following is an indicative list –
•Provided bio inputs such as neem seed powder, compost and vermicompost and plant protection materials.
•Traditional paddy seeds suited to the specific areas based on the local crop seasons.
•We have facilitated flood-affected farmers to obtain support from the Government of Tamil Nadu in Nagapattinam, Kancheepuram, Tiruvannamalai and Ramanathapuram Districts through documentation and representation to the government agencies.
•In terms of the selection of beneficiaries – Preference was given to small and marginal farmers, those farmers who were severely affected by cyclones and floods and we prioritized those farmers who are unable to get compensation or support from the government.
