BDSB piloting agriculture program at Grey Roots Museum in 2024

Grey County Council has approved a one-year trial to relocate the Bluewater District School Board's Agriculture program to the Grey Roots Museum and Archives.

This existing program exposes students to a variety of agriculture subjects such as horticulture, crop science, animal science, and livestock production.

The school board proposed moving the program to Grey Roots, as Owen Sound is a transportation hub for the bus system. The move means up to 25 students would be able to enroll.

The proposal included use of the lower level of the barn and chicken coop for animal husbandry, use of the schoolhouse for classroom space, and short term use of the replica Orange Hall for seed propagation.

The county is just providing the venue through the pilot partnership, which is set to run from January to June 2024.

Staff will bring a report on the sustainability of the program back to council in the future and if successful, it could develop into a long-term partnership.
