Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Process

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) describes a process used by the CMRAO to ensure a fair assessment of the credentials and qualifications of applicants who have not completed the recognized coursework required to hold a General Licence.

Currently, applicants for a General Licence must successfully complete the following five courses developed by the CMRAO:

  1. Condominium Management – Law
  2. Condominium Management – Building Operations and Maintenance
  3. Condominium Management – Financials
  4. Condominium Management – Relationship Building
  5. Condominium Management – Operational Quality

Legislation permits the Registrar of the CMRAO to recognize learning achieved through a variety of means, such as previous formal training and education and work experience as a substitute to prescribed courses. Section 11(3) of the General Regulation made under the Condominium Management Services Act, 2015, states:

(3) For the purposes of paragraph 2 of subsection (1), the registrar may recognize any of the following as equivalent to successfully completing some or all of the requirements specified under section 5:

  1. The prior successful completion by the applicant of programs of study, training programs, internship programs, apprenticeship programs, courses, seminars, lectures, or tutorials.
  2. The prior successful completion by the applicant of examinations or tests.
  3. The prior work experience of the applicant.

Applications and supporting documents will be assessed to determine if an applicant's education, previous experience and knowledge meet the required competencies of a condominium manager.

To apply, please send an email to info@cmrao.ca expressing an interest in the RPL process.

Applicants will be asked to provide the following:

  1. An up-to-date resumé detailing work experience as it relates to condominium management
  2. Transcripts of all condominium management-related education
  3. Copies of degrees or diplomas
  4. A reference letter from:
    • A member of their board of directors
    • A professional that they have a working relationship with

Applicants may be asked for additional information and/or documentation during the RPL evaluation process. Once the evaluation process is complete, applicants will receive a letter detailing the Registrar’s decision.
