WECHU Letter of Instruction
The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit (WECHU) has issued a Letter of Instruction in response to the "disproportionate burden of COVID-19" in our region and to control the spread.

The directives outlined in the letter are effective December 10, 2021 at 12:01 a.m. until further notice.

Directive Summary:

1. General Compliance for businesses and organizations that are open under the Reopening Ontario (A Flexible Response to COVID-19) Act, 2020

The University of Windsor continues to comply with all regulations and requirements as outlined by WECHU.

As guided by this directive (and prior to it), all COVID-19 related policies and procedures are continuously reviewed by the Health & Safety Office and Return to Campus Action Group.

Departments will remain at 50% capacity allowing for remote work while ensuring the needs of our students and institution are met. Those working at higher capacities can continue to do so under their approved safety plan.

Implemented public health measures, policies and procedures continue across campus, including the University's COVID-19 Vaccination Policy, daily health screening, mask requirements (and the use of other PPE where applicable), physical distancing and the promotion of hand and respiratory hygiene.

2. Gatherings

Based on this new directive, the University of Windsor is requiring that all social events be moved to virtual/remote format. In addition, it is recommended that meetings and other gatherings be moved to a remote format where possible.

3. Meeting & Event Spaces, Restaurants, Bars

Indoor capacity is now limited to 50% of the total space to enable physical distancing. Existing University of Windsor policies and procedures meet this criteria.
The University of Windsor is committed to:
  • providing a safe and healthy workplace and learning environment for its employees, students and visitors,
  • preventing occupational illness and injury in the workplace,
  • continually improving health and safety practices and performance
