Environment Canada has issued a Special Air Quality Statement for Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent. Smoke plumes from forest fires over northeastern Ontario and Quebec have moved into the area, resulting in deteriorated air quality and high levels of air pollution. Environment Canada expects conditions to improve for some areas on Thursday night.
Students, faculty and staff are advised of these high levels of air pollution. Work outside should be minimized or avoided altogether. Individuals should stay indoors with central air conditioning and avoid strenuous activities outdoors.
Wildfire smoke can be harmful to everyone’s health even at low concentrations. If breathing becomes uncomfortable or you or someone in your care feel unwell, contact or seek medical attention through a healthcare provider.
