About this event

Given the interest and success of a recent AHS Virtual Opioid Dependency Program (VODP) virtual event held in November, the Indigenous Wellness Core and Provincial Addiction and Mental Health will host a second information session on VODP on January 30, 2024.

The opioid crisis is a challenge that is impacting Albertans. In Indigenous communities, we know that the drug poisonings have been felt by families and communities at a staggering rate.

The Opioid Dependency Program (which includes virtual services) is a treatment option available to individuals to help them live healthy lives and support their recovery journey.

AHS Provincial Addictions and Mental Health and the Indigenous Wellness Core would like to invite health professionalsn and leaders who servce Indigenous peoples to take part in a virtual session. This session will be an opportunity to learn more about how the Virtual Opioid Dependency Program works and how communities can connect to it, to outline what is involved in Opioid Agonist Treatment (OAT), to hear from Indigenous communities where it is operating, and to have time for their questions.

The purpose of this seminar will be to:

  • Equip communities to dispel any myths and misconceptions communities may have about Opioid Agonist Treatment (OAT).
  • Promote Virtual Opioid Dependency Program (VODP) as a treatment option for rural and remote Indigenous communities.
  • Hear from communities as to what information they require and how we can work in partnership to understand treatment options including VODP.

We look forward to meeting with you for this important conversation.
