DESIGN FOR THE GLOBAL MAJORITY Workshop 3

INTRODUCTION TO RADICAL GARDENS FOR RADICAL NEW RELATIONS

Workshop Facilitators Nouveaux Voisins

Date October 27, 2023

Time Noon

Duration 4-5 hours

Location Room 101-102, Macdonald-Harrington Building, 815 Sherbrooke St W, Montreal

Design and plant a prairie-style garden using perennial plants, an eco-centric approach to supporting biodiversity. Learn about alternatives to grass and traditional planting approaches while becoming familiar with local plant varietals. Participants will learn how to design a garden that better supports biological diversity on campus and, in so doing, better understand the difference between these approaches and conventional horticulture.

The first half of the workshop will include a theoretical discussion about our relationship to living things and the challenge of regenerating our damaged territories. The second half of the workshop will include a "naturalistic planting" design exercise and a planting activity.

The workshop is limited to 30 participants.

DESIGN FOR THE GLOBAL MAJORITY traces the fifty years of contributions by McGill University's Minimum Cost Housing Program (MCHG). Please check the MCHG website for a full and updated list of the project program during October 2023. www.mcgill.ca/mchg
