The Council of Outdoor Educators of Ontario is excited to invite you to present a workshop at COEO’s Make Peace With Winter Conference to be held at Camp Kawartha, January 20 - 22, 2023.
We are thrilled to be able to gather in the wintertime once again to share ideas and connect as outdoor education professionals. Have your outdoor education programs been affected by new weather patterns? How can we adapt our teaching and "make peace with changing winter"? Are there ways to educate about climate change through interactions with winter? How can we encourage educators and students to learn and play and "just be" outdoors in the winter?
We encourage all presenters to do their best to create interactive, experiential, hands-on, or discussion-based workshops. Our hope is to minimize the number of lecture-style slideshow presentations and disconnect from screens when possible. That being said, if you've got a neat way to use technology that you're keen to share with others please don't shy away from including tech!
We hope to see workshops on topics including, but not limited to: place-based education, folk skills, creating inclusive communities, school & community gardens, integrated programs, early years programs, citizen science, bushcraft skills, forest schools, bioblitzes, leadership programs, diversity in outdoor education, nature ID, winter skills and park programming.
Workshop presenter compensation: On behalf of our membership, COEO provides a $50 cash honorarium for each workshop. All presenters attending the conference (full weekend or Saturday only) must register and pay the conference & membership fees. It is possible to present and not attend the conference, but preference may be given to attendees.
COEO is committed to supporting diverse and inclusive participation in our conferences, and we recognize that there are many real barriers to involvement in programs such as this one, including a lack of representation and financial cost. To ensure that we are actively creating opportunities for members to participate, we hope Outdoor Educators requiring financial support (full or partial) will apply to our bursary fund.
