Research Participants Aged 18-40 Years Needed for Remote Vital Signs Imaging

Researchers at the Biophotonics Lab (ECE/BME) are currently recruiting participants for a study examining non-contact monitoring of vital signs (heart rate, breathing rate) using a camera. The study involves sitting or standing in front of a camera for short durations. A reference vital signs recording will be obtained using adhesive electrocardiogram (ECG) sensors attached to your body and a finger-attached pulse oximeter.

You are eligible to participate if you meet the following requirements:

1) between 18 – 40 years of age, and

2) are part of the University of Toronto community (student, employee), and

3) healthy (i.e. no major health conditions and not taking medication), and

4) able to perform moderate physical activity for 30-second intervals to elevate your heart rate and breathing rate.

If you answered yes to all of the above criteria and are interested in participating, please contact fill out the rest of the form. If you have any questions about this study, please contact Lindsay Kuramoto by e-mail at Lindsay.Kuramoto@mail.utoronto.ca. Please do not send sensitive personal information via e-mail.

You will be compensated for your time at a rate of $8/thirty minutes. The study takes approximately 2-3 hours to complete. This study has received ethics clearance through the Research Ethics Board at the University of Toronto.  The risks associated with participating in this study are minimal and will be explained to you by the experimenter upon verifying that you are eligible to participate. Please note that participation is limited and replying to this advertisement does not guarantee participation.

We are taking precautions to avoid the spread of COVID-19. The lab equipment and environment will be sanitized before and after your visit. Only one lab member will be present in the room, and appropriate physical distance will be maintained when possible. It is important to note that parts of this study will require you to temporarily remove your mask. During these times, the lab member will remain behind a plastic sheet to minimize transmission risk.

Thank you for your consideration and we look forward to hearing from you soon.
