CIHR Heat Grant - Toronto 2022 sampling campaign
The Transportation and Air Quality (TRAQ) research group at the University of Toronto is collecting data on small scale variations in ambient temperatures across Toronto this summer 2022. We will be installing 200 temperature and relative humidity sensors across the GTA, while covering a range of urban environments.
If you live in the GTA, have a front porch, backyard, or a first-floor balcony, please consider volunteering to host one of our sensors. We will also install sensors in green spaces, so please consider sharing names of parks or conservation areas and contact information of individuals who would allow us to install within these premises.
The sensors do not require power nor internet, they will be installed on a vertical pole (at an adequate location that the team will identify) with a zip tie or metal strap. We plan on installing the sensors in the month of May and keeping them for the summer.
If you are interested in the data collected or in collaborating with our team please let us know.
While we are collecting a list of potential locations, our team generated an initial distribution of sensors based on downscaled temperatures. Therefore, if your location is a good candidate, we will contact you to arrange for an installation date. If we do not contact you, we will not show up at your door!
All of our research assistants will be wearing masks and will follow the University of Toronto and City of Toronto covid-19 protocols. If we have to enter an indoor space in your house to access the appropriate outdoor location, and you are not comfortable with us doing so, we can show you how you can attach the sensor to a pole.
