| Statement of Concern Regarding Anti-Trans Hate from The Trafficking and Exploitation Services System (TESS) and Girls Against Trafficking and Exploitation (GATE) | In recent months, across Canada, we have seen a concerning rise in anti-trans sentiment. A common theme that has risen from this dialog is the belief that members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and their allies are grooming children through our school curriculums and in other public settings. The term “grooming” refers to a process of trust building, manipulation, and coercion with an underlying intention to sexually exploit or abuse another person. The weaponization of such weighted language against the entirety of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community is increasing their risk of experiencing discrimination and violence. Not only is the misuse of this language extremely harmful and egregious, but also poses a threat to our collective understanding of what grooming is, its existing pervasiveness Canada wide, and our efforts to prevent it. TESS and GATE are joined in concern for the impact this misuse of language is having on the safety of children and vulnerable populations in Nova Scotia, and across Canada. | https://www.ywcahalifax.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Statement-of-Concern-Regarding-Anti-Trans-Hate-February-2024.pdf

| APA Policy Statement on Affirming Evidence-Based Inclusive Care for Transgender, Gender Diverse, and Nonbinary Individuals, Addressing Misinformation, and the Role of Psychological Practice and Science | This policy statement affirms APA’s support for unobstructed access to healthcare and evidence-based clinical care for transgender, gender-diverse, and nonbinary children, adolescents, and adults. Furthermore, this policy statement addresses the spread of misleading and unfounded narratives that mischaracterize gender dysphoria and affirming care, likely resulting in further stigmatization, marginalization, and lack of access to psychological and medical supports for transgender, gender-diverse, and nonbinary individuals. | https://www.apa.org/about/policy/transgender-nonbinary-inclusive-care?utm_source=substack&utm_medium=email
| Statement from the Alberta Medical Association - Section of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry on gender-affirming treatments | The Section of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry of the Alberta Medical Association would like to add our voice to the chorus of concern arising from Premier Smith’s recent announcement of new policies banning or significantly curtailing access to gender-affirming care and support in healthcare and education. 10 | Teachers need to be consulted on troubling consequences of new policies | Alberta Teachers Association: We are concerned about the chilling effect placed on classrooms and schools, impacting our ability to provide safe, caring and inclusive spaces for all students. We are concerned about how students may feel forced to suppress their identities and to be afraid of reaching out to teachers as an avenue for support. | https://teachers.ab.ca/news/teachers-need-be-consulted-troubling-consequences-new-policies
| Fact vs. Fiction: The UCP Attack on Trans kids, "parents rights", Education & Medicine | Danielle Smith and the UCP have launched a series of policies attacking trans kids, the LGBTQ2S+ community, parents ability to choose medical procedures with and for their kids, teachers and the education system and the entire medical community. In this episode we fact check Smith from her launch video to several press conferences, and it becomes pretty clear pretty quickly that what Smith says this about isn't at ALL what it's actually about. | https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=47g-xL89udQ&ab_channel=TheBreakdownAB

| There’s no such thing as ‘parents’ rights’ | Parents have a right to raise their children in accordance with their own values, most notably their religious values. 18 | Danielle Smith’s “Gender Identity” Policies are Draconian Violations of Trans & Queer Students’ Rights: Support Our Students Alberta | Support Our Students Alberta absolutely opposes these proposed measures. These sweeping policies specifically target young Albertans who identify as LGBTQ2S+ and outright ban their access to safe schools, healthcare, medicine, and psychological support. In school settings, these students’ rights to safe self expression will also be banned. Queer and transgender students, especially those without affirming homes, are already vulnerable to alienation, isolation, suicide, and homelessness. Smith’s policies significantly multiply their risk of harm. | https://www.supportourstudents.ca/press-room
