There are a broad range of IT positions within the RCMP with varying roles. Examples include: help desk support, application development of policing tools, IT security, radio communication infrastructure, and IT architecture. The RCMP IM/IT Program is responsible for providing the IT tools, services, and solutions for the law enforcement community to fight crime across Canada and internationally. Intent of the process

A pool of qualified candidates will be established and may be used to staff similar positions within the RCMP in the National Capital Region on an indeterminate or specified period (including term, acting, or assignment) basis, with various linguistic profiles and various RCMP security clearances. Depending on the position being staffed, additional qualifications may be required by the hiring manager. Applicants will be provided with the opportunity to submit information relevant to any additional qualifications that may be applied.

Should a Civilian Member (CM) be found qualified and selected for appointment, the appointment will not result in a change of status to the Public Service (PS) category for the CM. Information regarding the CM appointment will be sent to all applicable candidates who are within the area of selection and participated in the advertised process.

STEP 1 of the assessment process - INTRODUCE YOURSELF

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION
Successful completion of two years of an acceptable post-secondary educational program in computer science, information technology, information management or another specialty relevant to the position to be staffed.

Notes:
1. Indeterminate period incumbents of positions in the CS group on May 10, 1999, who do not possess the education prescribed above, are deemed to meet the minimum education standards based on their education, training and/or experience. They must be accepted as having met the minimum education standard whenever this standard is called for when staffing positions in the CS group.
2. It is the recognized educational institution (e.g. community college, CÉGEP or university) that determines if the courses taken by a candidate correspond to two years of a post-secondary program at the institution.
3. At the manager's discretion, an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience may serve as an alternative to the minimum post-secondary education stated above. Whenever the minimum education is met using this alternative, it is met for the specific position only and must be re-assessed for other positions for which this alternative has been specified by the manager.

Second Language Evaluation (SLE) testing will be administered, as required, using the Public Service Commission’s (PSC) SLE tests.
