What is this engagement about?
From May to July 2024, people, organizations and industry groups within B.C. are invited to provide input on draft recommendations for Accessible Service Delivery and Employment Accessibility standards under the Accessible British Columbia Act.
These recommendations will form the basis of future accessibility regulations in B.C.
Timeline:
- January 2024 to March 2024 – Pre-Consultation phase
- May 31, 2024 to July 31, 2024 – Public Engagement phase

How to participate

Community-led sessions and funding
Indigenous organizations and partners, community organizations, or organizations representing an equity group can apply for funding to host small group roundtable using a provided conversation toolkit.
Phase 2 – Public Engagement: Spring/summer 2024
We welcome all people in British Columbia to participate. Below are opportunities for individuals, organizations, advocates and industries to share their perspectives on the draft standards recommendations. Feedback received will help shape the final draft accessibility standards.
Opportunities to participate will include:
- Regional Virtual Town Hall Sessions (open to all people in British Columbia)
- Find a scheduled session (coming soon)
- Small Group Sessions (key partners/ stakeholders)
- In-person
- Virtual
- Host a Community-Led Session (organization or organized group)
- Learn more about leading a session (coming soon)
- Direct Submission (associations, organizations, organized groups, businesses, or individuals)
- Online Engagement (open to all people in British Columbia)

Phase 1 – Pre-consultation: January 2024 to March 2024
Government and the Provincial Accessibility Committee is engaging with key partners to:
- Provide an update on the work to advance the development of the accessibility standards
- Create awareness on the upcoming public engagement on the draft accessibility standards recommendations
- Receive feedback on who to engage, best approaches for engaging identified groups and opportunities government can use for a meaningful participation in public engagement
Input from the pre-consultation phase will inform the approach to the public consultation phase scheduled for late May to July 2024.
