Help for income tax service providers

Assisting you with your interpretive tax questions

If you are a small or medium income tax service provider, such as an accountant, bookkeeper, lawyer or other tax practitioner, you can get free help with your technical/interpretive income tax questions over the telephone.

The Income Tax Rulings Directorate’s Dedicated Telephone Service (DTS) connects you with experienced officers who will help you find the information you need to interpret the provisions of the Income Tax Act.

In order to provide the most accurate and relevant information possible, DTS officers will not provide an immediate response to your question over the telephone. After reviewing your tax issue, the officers will carefully consider your question and send you helpful information and guidance by email, generally within three business days depending on the complexity of the tax issue. Officers are ready to assist you in both English and French.

DTS officers do not have access to taxpayers' accounts

If you have questions relating to individual and corporate taxpayer accounts, forms, returns or tax slips (for example, GIFI, filing returns, authorizing representatives, submitting documents, status of submitted documents, payroll, etc.), please refer to Contact the CRA to find the right phone number for your question. You can also access your client's tax information using the Represent a Client service.

For technical questions regarding the GST/HST, call 1-800-959-8287 (If the physical location of your business is in Quebec, contact Revenu Québec, at 1-800-567-4692).
