2024 World Para Ice Hockey Championship

Location

Event Description

Access Control

Volunteers will be stationed at key access points to check accreditations to ensure only accredited individuals gain access to restricted areas as it relates to fans and all accredited individuals including competing teams, on-ice officials, VIPs and event delegates. To ensure building and participant safety, volunteers in this role will need to be extremely diligent in checking everyone’s accreditation at their station. These stations are typically behind the scenes and located at corridor entry points. 

 

Fan Experience

This is a frontline customer service orientated committee that requires volunteers to arrive in advance of doors opening to fans. Volunteers will help guide fans and event guests and ensure that all of their needs are effectively met. Duties may include but are not limited to: welcoming, hosting and answering all questions to the best of their capability; referring guests to appropriate stations, help manage information desks at the various host hotels and venues, support activations at fan fest, work at various potential information kiosks throughout the city. Volunteers may be working on set-up, tear-down and execution of Fan Zone activities. Volunteers may be required to work outdoors

 

VIP Hospitality

Volunteers will manage the VIP lounge by looking after set-up and tear-down, gifting distribution, the VIP info desk, access control, coat check, and food and beverages. Volunteers will welcome and host event Stakeholders and VIPs.


Game Operations

Volunteers will work with the game operations team to help execute in-stand and on-ice intermission activations. Their responsibilities may also include, finding activation participants, engaging fans, helping to guide fans and event guests to their required participation area, and ensuring prizing is organized and on hand for each giveaway. Volunteers will also support promotional item giveaways either at door opening or closing. Volunteers will assist in ceremony execution (opening, closing, player of the game, flag-raising, and flag-bearer kids). Duties will include greeting event partners upon arrival at the venue and escorting them to the ceremonies waiting room, as well as ceremony preparation and set-up.

 

Media Services

Volunteers will support all media operations throughout the venue. This position includes a range of media activity including media workroom, press box, broadcast, mix zone and statistics distribution. Individuals prepared to learn the ins and outs of media operations and work in a fast-paced environment will find this role suited for them. Volunteers will find this role suited for them if they are knowledgeable or interested in learning about the ins and outs of media operations and working in a fast-paced environment. This is an active role in which individuals must be comfortable interacting with the media and enforcing access restrictions. Media services volunteers will also assist Hockey Canada staff members to collect game lines from teams 90minutes ahead of puck drop and distrbute to scouts, media and off-ice officials.

 

Medical

Volunteers to support the medical committee are required in the following areas of professional practice; doctors, orthopedic surgeons, dentists and physiotherapists. All medical volunteers will report directly to the Chief Medical Officer to support medical needs of the competing federations and championship officials. Medical volunteers should expect to receive a volunteer schedule tied to needs associated with games and provide on-call availability.

 

Merchandise Sales

Volunteers who are members of the sales team must be customer service focused, comfortable using point-of sale terminals and handling cash. Volunteers who are members of this committee will assist fans and players with official event merchandise purchases.

 

Off-Ice Officials

Off-ice officials include penalty box attendants, score clock operators, score keepers and statisticians. Statistics and scoring will be tracked using the IPC statistics software package. People in this role will be required to have experience working in or volunteering in similar roles and must be willing to learn new technologies and adapt to IPC game protocols.

 

Team Services

Volunteers will provide front-line support for the teams at the competition and training venues. Volunteers will assist in dressing room set-up by stocking beverages, equipment supplies, and snacks. They will assist in the coordination of team laundry and equipment transfers. This is an all-hands-on-deck, do-anything-to-ensure-success kind of role. Previous experience assisting teams in a similar capacity is preferred.

 

Transportation

Volunteers will drive event delegates such as team staff, VIPs and media between host hotels and competition venues. Vehicles will be SUVs supplied by the championship with periodic requirements for volunteers to drive cube trucks for equipment transfers and greet airport arrivals. Individuals applying to work in transportation will be required to submit a driver's abstract and have a valid license.

 

Volunteer & Accreditation Operations

Volunteers will support the execution of the volunteer program for all event volunteers. This position includes a range of volunteer activities including clothing distribution, volunteer check-in, administering daily draws, lounge supervision and being a central source for event information. Volunteer Services are also responsible for food and beverage services. Volunteers in this position will be based out of the Volunteer Lounge which may not be located in the competition venue.

 

Ushers & Ticket Scanners

Be part of the team that welcomes attendees to the championship! This is a frontline customer service orientated committee that requires volunteers to arrive in advance of doors opening to fans. Positions under this committee include ticket scanners, attending to the will call/accreditation desk and ushers.
