Ford protecting his developer buddies instead of standing up for homebuyers: NDP

600 complaints were filed over the last year, only two resulted in action

QUEEN’S PARK – Sara Singh, NDP Deputy Leader (Brampton Centre), released the following statement in response to the Ford government’s changes to the Home Construction Regulatory Authority fines:

“People are already facing enormous hurdles in buying houses and condos. No homebuyer should ever get squeezed by greedy developers who jack up prices after purchase contracts are already signed. It’s not enough for the Ford government to say they’re doubling fines for bad behaviour. To protect consumers Doug Ford actually has to enforce the penalties he already has on the books. We know that from February 2021 to today, 600 complaints were made to the Home Construction Regulatory Authority, and only two companies were charged. It’s clear that Doug Ford is more interested in protecting the interests of his developer buddies. He broke the system. New Democrats will fix it.”
