Anti-Racism Learning Resources Project

Started in 2021 with funding from the Ministry of Education and Child Care, the goal of the project is to identify and/or develop BC-specific resources aligned with BC’s K-12 curriculum that improve the representation of racialized communities and promote a more comprehensive understanding of anti-racism, human rights, and diverse cultural experiences, histories, and contributions.

Advisory Committee

Summary of Resources

Resources reviewed for this project represent a “snapshot in time”  (May 2022) and both Focused Education and the Anti-Racism Learning Resources Advisory Committee acknowledge that there may be more resources available that were not reviewed.  We also acknowledge that new and valuable resources are being created all the time and therefore are not reflected in this summary.

The submitted resources were scanned to assess the degree to which historical events and experiences were represented related to Indigenous peoples, and Black, Chinese, Japanese, South Asian, Muslim and European communities in Canada .

Of particular note are the many first-person narratives of resilience from all cultural communities. Relevant, poignant, and deeply personal, these stories provide perspective of migration and resilience to support key historical events. A growing number of podcast resources on a variety of issues related to Racism/Anti-Racism are informative and interactive in nature. This diverse array of historical resources and personal stories provide a foundational reference of information suitable for use in the K-12 context.
