Habitat use by fishes in the Crow River and Nipissing River watersheds of Algonquin Park
Understanding how fishes move through rivers and lakes to access different habitats is important for estimating how environmental change (e.g., climate change) and human activities may impact aquatic ecosystems within and outside of Algonquin Park. We are conducting a study in the Crow and Nipissing River watersheds to monitor fish movement and habitat use in Algonquin Park. Our study involves tagging individuals of different fish species and installing receivers in both watersheds to track fish movement through time.

We, at Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO), are aiming to gather information that may provide a better understanding, based on Indigenous Knowledge and on-the-ground observations, of which species are found in different parts of the watersheds at different times of the year. The data gathered will help us determine which species to tag and where to prioritize monitoring activities. The information collected in this survey will be accessed only by AOO Consultation Office Staff and the DFO research team and will not distributed. The information gathered is not related to the fisheries management plan for the Park.

The survey should take 20-30 mins to complete.
