D.W. Poppy Robotics - Can Code Workshop
PREVIOUS ATTENDEES ARE WELCOME TO COME AGAIN

A local program for elementary school students to get a head start in programming! We offer everything from basic Lego Mindstorms to more advanced Vex and FRC coding. Run by the D.W. Poppy Robotics Team, our students have a deep passion for robotics, design, team building, and a bunch are looking into working in STEM fields. This workshop is for students who have a passion in anything electronics, computers, robotics, or even just loves to build. Those who have never touched code before, and those who are little gurus who can pick up and learn anything.

We have 2 levels of learning available at both workshops. Level 1 will delve into Lego Mindstorms, learning how to make a pre-built robot drive, make autonomous commands, such as stopping in front of a wall, then turning right and continuing. Along with that we will be demonstrating our competition robots, and what high-level robotics looks like. Level 2 will also be with Lego Mindstorms, but looking at more advanced programming topics, including line following, colour detection, and a replica of adaptive cruise control. Level 2 will also get a chance to see a demo of our competition robots, and make their own changes to our code in a program called LabVIEW. We will walk them through the steps needed to do complete these objectives as well as give one-on-one mentoring to those who need more help.

The workshop is located at D.W. Poppy Secondary in the Library. Available for grades 4-7. The workshops run from 4:00-5:30 PM
