Maple Ridge Public Health Unit has been designated by the Breastfeeding Committee for Canada as meeting all of the standards of care as set out by the Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI) quality improvement framework.
The health unit has worked hard to implement evidence-based practices with a focus on the most vulnerable populations, and has built many relationships with external agencies in the community to facilitate a seamless transition between services in acute and community care. Through these multi-faceted and sustained efforts to improve perinatal care practices, the health unit was able to increase local community-based breast/chestfeeding rates and better support parents to meet their infant feeding goals.
