About the Innovation

Dr. Sheila Wang receives the Governor General’s Innovation Award for her leadership in the creation of an artificial intelligence-driven technology for monitoring wound care patients remotely. The technology is being deployed by Swift Medical across North America to help thousands of wound care patients access immediate, virtual wound care while remaining in their own homes.

About the Innovator

Dr. Sheila Wang is a renowned clinician-scientist and recipient of the 2019 CMA Young Leader Award, the 2018 Quebec Excelsior Award and the 2019 Joule Innovation Award. She is the Co-Founder and Chief Medical Officer of Swift Medical, the global leader in digital wound technology, adopted by over 3,900 healthcare organizations and used to monitor over 450,000 patients each month. Dr. Wang completed her PhD and MD at the University of Toronto and was awarded a Royal Society International Newton Fellowship to conduct translational research at the University of Oxford where she patented a novel technology for drug screening. She is currently completing her residency in Dermatology at McGill University. This year, Dr. Wang and her team were awarded $2.5 million by the federally-funded Digital Technology Supercluster to launch Telewound Care Canada, a national coalition of leading industry, healthcare and academic partners dedicated to scaling an innovative, AI-powered solution that enables highly vulnerable wound patients to access immediate, remote wound care while in their homes and communities during COVID-19, and beyond.
