Many cities around the world have been defined as “Smart Cities” because of their use of digital technologies as a tool for improving efficiency, governance, and the quality of life in the city. At the same time, cities’ residents use more digital technologies in their everyday interactions with their social, physical, and economic surroundings. This session invites papers that critically examine the use of and interaction with digital technologies in urban spaces. We welcome both top-down and bottom-up perspectives and particularly comparative research examining cases in more than one city.
