Summary: This enactment amends provisions of the National Defence Act that relate to the military justice system in response to the Report of the Third Independent Review Authority to the Minister of National Defence and the Report of the Independent External Comprehensive Review of the Department of National Defence and the Canadian Armed Forces.
Bill 11, Public Safety Statutes Amendment Act was introduced March 13th, 2024.
If passed, Bill 11 will update the Police Act and the Police Amendment Act, 2022 to enable the creation of new independent agency police service that would operate seamlessly alongside local police. The bill would also update the Corrections Act to implement electronic monitoring enabling courts to add it to an individual’s bail or community-release conditions. (Source)
Bill C-62, An Act to amend An act to amend the Criminal Code (medical assistance in dying), No. 2 received royal assent February 29, 2024.
Summary: This enactment amends An Act to amend the Criminal Code (medical assistance in dying) to provide that persons are not eligible, until March 17, 2027, to receive medical assistance in dying if their sole underlying medical condition is a mental illness.
The Lieutenant Governor in Council makes the Provincial Judges and Applications Judges Compensation Amendment Regulation (OC 30/2024; AR 19/2024) under the authority of s. 9.52 of the Court of Justice Act and s. 8 and 16 of Court of King’s Bench Act. This regulation amends Provincial Court Judges and Applications Judges Compensation Regulation (AR 176/1998)
