NLC Admissions has put together a list of resources to help you study and prepare for your assessments. Please note that the following links and tools are managed by external organizations. As such, the content of these assessments may vary somewhat from the content of NLC’s CAAT and Trades Math Assessments. While differences may exist, you may still find these to be useful tools to help prepare and practice for testing.
Suggestions on How to Study
1. Complete 1-2 practice tests on the subjects in which you will be tested. Review the answers.
2. Determine the subject areas in which you are comfortable, and the areas in which you need to improve.
3. Study the areas where you need to improve. You may wish to enroll in a CCP study block if you feel you need in-person assistance with your learning. Or, you can take advantage of some free online video courses via Khan Academy or Hippo Campus (links below).
4. Re-take your assessments to check your improvement. If more practice is required, return to your learning resources (CCP courses or online video courses). Try to take a couple of different practice tests, since familiarity with a testing tool can influence your results.
5. Once you are satisfied with your abilities, take your true assessment test at NLC.
Tips for Successful Testing
1. Study and review the subjects you will be tested on.
2. Familiarize yourself with the types of questions on the test.
3. Get a good night’s sleep prior to the day of your test. If you are working before arriving at the test, schedule yourself some time off to decompress and relax before your test time.
4. Bring pencils, pens, and a simple calculator (if required).
5. Read your entire test prior to beginning. Start in the areas in which you are most confident, then return to complete the rest of the sections. Remember to review your test before submitting it to ensure that you do not miss any questions.
