Apply for Admission

To apply for admission with the Law Society of Alberta, you must first create a Lawyer Portal account. If you are a Canadian lawyer or a Student-at-Law Applicant, you must first create a Lawyer Portal account with the Law Society of Alberta and then submit the required applications within your account. Please click Apply for Admission to continue and you will receive an email with information on how to log into the Lawyer Portal once submitted. Once logged in, you can create and submit any required applications as well as update your contact information. Do not create more than one account.

Students-at-Law Applicants: To review requirements to become a Student-at-Law, please click here. Important: You cannot begin articles or hold yourself out as a Student-at-Law until you have received written approval and a confirmed start date from the Law Society.

Transfer Applicants: To review information for lawyers transferring to Alberta from another Canadian jurisdiction, click here. Important: You cannot start practising in Alberta until you have received written confirmation from the Law Society of Alberta that you are licensed.
