Hello there:

I'm Nicole, Canadian Parents for French, Network CEO. Welcome back to another school year and thanks so much for your membership in our organization over the past months! CPF is working hard to provide our members with resources that inform on FSL topics, offer youth French learning opportunities that engage and inspire, as well as advocate on behalf of a strong unified voice for linguistic duality in Canada. So much is happening at CPF this fall:
Programming
  • Together we just celebrated Canada’s Official Languages Day on September 8th, 2022 – Formerly known as Linguistic Duality Day – CPF is collaborating to broaden the Day’s reach so that it may be recognized and celebrated among the general population marking Canada’s official bilingual status. We invite all CPF members to subscribe to the bilingual Bonjour, My Friend Newsletter and visit the LDNetwork website to learn more.

  • From September 26 to 30th, 2022, CPF is once again recognizing the importance of marking the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. A family resource for readings and activity ideas will be shared next week and posted on our social media accounts to support you and your children on this pathway to learning.

  • October 13-16th, 2022 is our CPF Virtual Member Conference with a wonderful program of inspirational Keynotes, Workshops and French Family Socio-Cultural Programming – all free for current CPF members! See below to register today!

Advocacy and Communications
  • We just wrapped up a digital letter writing campaign in support of our CPF Marystown Chapter (Burin Peninsula, Newfoundland and Labrador) as the NL Department of Education is cutting their local French immersion program. Thanks to you, CPF members across Canada, the Minister of Education received 600 letters in protest of that decision, directly in his mailbox!

  • Another chance to share your voice – On September 20th, we launched our next letter writing campaign, this time to ask each Member of Parliament to support Bill C-13 to modernize the Official Languages Act. It lincludes explicit recognition to help ensure all Canadians (language rights and non-rights holders) have the opportunity to learn French and address barriers that limit equitable access to quality French learning programs. Please sign and send this letter to your MP today.

  • CPF Magazine will reach your mailbox in time for Thanksgiving. This issue has interesting articles on parents’ perceptions for choosing French immersion, fostering the love of reading in French at home, and a handy CPF ‘online learning’ advocacy worksheet.

  • November 29th, 2022 is Giving Tuesday, and CPF will once again run a month-long fundraising campaign to build up the More French S.V.P.! Mary Joyce Booth Fund which annually provides $1,000 grants to each CPF Branch to support additional French youth learning opportunities. Stay tuned for this year’s challenge!
