Whether you are at home caring for children or at home balancing work and child care, here are some tips to help bring structure to your day and help you and your children manage emotions in a positive way.
Have quiet time, away from tv and social media. E.g. books, puzzles, games, writing letters/notes to family and friends, journaling about current experiences, and imagination games.
Check out Build Your Best Day for more ideas on what to do with your kids. Not all activities are recommended at this time due to social distancing and infection prevention and control guidelines.
Children might feel stressed or anxious about COVID-19.
Here’s how to manage emotions in a positive way:
Take the time to calmly talk about COVID-19 with your child. Reassure your child that they are safe. Let them know that it is ok if they feel upset. Share with them how you deal with your own stress so that they can learn how to cope from you.
Have a plan (think about having food and supplies on-hand for 14 days, should your family need to self-isolate)
Seek extra help when you need it (telehealth is available in many languages, and local Canadian Mental Health Association offices are also here to help)
