Encourage kids to learn at home over the holidays
We’re all familiar with the ‘summer slide’, but the winter holiday break can also cause learning loss for school-aged children, who will spend more than two weeks off school later this month.

Help prevent learning loss and ensure kids return sharper than ever by encouraging family literacy activities over the school break. Oftentimes, parents take time off work as well, which means it’s the perfect opportunity for them to spend quality time learning together as a family.

We’ve even got a few winter-themed activities on hand for you to share with parents:

Pretend to be a Polar Bear: English French

Polar Bear Chase Game: English French

Snowman Finger Puppets: English French

Winter Walk Scavenger Hunt: English French

Family Literacy Day is coming up!

Next month, the 21st annual Family Literacy Day (FLD) will take place across Canada on January 27, 2020. The initiative aims to raise awareness of the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy-related activities as a family. This year, families are encouraged to "Take 20 in 2020" – that is, take 20 minutes a day throughout the year to make learning together part of their everyday.

We are pleased to provide free downloadable resources to promote your activities:
